Laser Nail Fungus Treatment

Want to put an end to nail fungus? Want to put your best foot forward?

Around 10% of the population suffer from the thickened, discoloured and in some cases unsightly toenail / fingernail condition. (Onychomycosis)
The fungal infection can affect either but toenail infections are far more common.

So what are the possible causes? These are just some reasons.

  • Heavy perspiration
  • Moist and humid environments (closed shoes, socks)
  • Age can be a factor, with poorer blood flow etc
  • Bare feet in public places like swimming pools, spas etc
  • A weakened immune system

Treatment of nail fungus (Onychomycosis) has been very challenging in the past, this is due to fungal particles being embedded within the nail which previous treatments find hard to reach.

Nail Paints/lacquers : This treatment tends to be a very lengthy process (12 months) and sometimes difficult to stick to the regime, lots of people forget. It also can have trouble penetrating the nail. This leads to a high failure rate.

Oral Antifungal medication/tablets: these come with many side effects, including liver problems, they also have trouble penetrating into the nail.

Laser Treatment!

With the laser it can penetrate deep into the nail and nail bed, the laser can also cover the whole area of the nail leaving no part untouched/treated.
There are little to no side effects using the laser, the treatment itself works by heat/laser light.

The fungi is sensitive to heat typically 40-60 degrees (Celsius) so we aim to heat the fungi to about 50 degrees to kill it off.

Is the treatment painful? No, you will feel a warm to hot sensation but only while the nail is being treated, easily tolerated.

At St James we use our superior Nd:YAG laser (neodymium-doped yttrium aluminium garnet) to treat the nail fungus.

How many treatments are needed? 3/4 depending on the severity of the condition, the earlier you start treatments the better.
Treatments are spaced 3-4 weeks apart.

Treatment prices start from £40
